Verizon keeps text messages on file for 10 days or 240 hours. Once this period has occured the messages are deleted from our system and are no longer available.
Can Verizon retrieve old text messages?
Text message content is maintained in Verizon message centers only for up to 10 days from receipt by VZW. All requests for text message content must be made through an attorney or court and made exclusively to the Verizon Law Enforcement Resource Team. We are not able to provide a hard copy unless it is a legal matter.
How long does Verizon keep text message details?
We keep and make available basic text message details for 90 days. You will find this information by logging into your My Verizon account. This includes who sent the message, who it was sent to, the date, and the time. No information is kept beyond that.
How far back can text messages be retrieved?
Most newer Android devices will let you view all your text messages but older models may limit you to viewing just the last 30 days’ worth of messages. In some instances, you can delete messages as old as 3 months. In some other carriers, you can go beyond 6 months.
